Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about getting started, cost, scheduling, and how therapy works. If you don't see your question here, the free consultation is the best place to get it answered.

Getting started

The first step is a free, 30-minute video call. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, answer any questions you may have, and determine together if we're a good fit. There's no commitment.

When therapists are taking new clients, we can typically schedule you within 1–2 weeks. After your free consultation, you'll be able to schedule your first session and get on a regular cadence. If your preferred therapist is full, you can still schedule a free consultation and get on their waitlist.

Yes, we offer telehealth throughout Colorado. In-person sessions are available at 5480 Valmont Road, Suite 225, Boulder, CO 80301. Most clients prefer in-person, and we typically recommend it for couples and family work.

We see clients Monday through Friday. Specific availability can be confirmed during your consultation or when scheduling.

Cost & insurance

Fees are discussed during your free consultation. Flatirons Relationship Center is a private-pay practice. We can provide a superbill (itemized receipt) that you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

We do not bill insurance directly. However, many PPO plans offer out-of-network mental health benefits. We can provide a superbill after each session so you can seek reimbursement from your insurer. Contact your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before your first session.

Please ask about fee options during your consultation. We're committed to making quality care accessible when possible.

About therapy

EFT is an experiential, in-depth therapy model that prioritizes re-wiring emotional bonds. The length of treatment varies depending on your attachment and trauma history, whether you have experienced any betrayals in the relationship, complicating factors (such as neuro-diversity or addiction), etc. We will work with you to determine your goals and will frequently communicate about the length and progress of your treatment.

Most clients start with weekly sessions. As things stabilize, some shift to biweekly. More frequent sessions are available when needed. We'll work with you on a cadence that fits your goals and schedule.

Couples therapy focuses on the dynamic between two people: the patterns, cycles, and ways of connecting and disconnecting that both partners contribute to. Individual therapy focuses entirely on your inner world: your patterns, your history, your relationship with yourself. Many people find that individual and couples work complement each other well.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is one of the most well-researched approaches in couples therapy, with a 70–73% success rate for clients who complete the process. It works by identifying the emotional cycles that keep couples stuck and helping each partner share their underlying feelings in ways that invite connection. We use EFT because it gets at root causes, not just surface behavior.

Ideally, yes. EFT works best when both partners are willing to engage with the process. That said, it's common for one partner to be more hesitant than the other at the start. If you're unsure, the free consultation is a good place to talk through concerns.

Yes. Everything shared in therapy is confidential, with limited exceptions required by law (risk of serious harm to self or others, or certain reports involving minors). We'll explain confidentiality and its limits during your first session.
