The Approach

Attachment & systems

We approach family therapy through an attachment and systems lens, meaning we're interested in both the individual relationships within the family and how the family as a whole functions.

The goal is to create enough safety within the therapy room that each family member can be heard, not just the loudest voice or the one who seems most affected. Often, the most important moments in family therapy come from the person who's been quietly carrying something alone.

Common questions

Family therapy can include any configuration: parents and children, blended families, families with adult children, sibling relationships, or the whole household. We'll work with you to determine what makes sense for your situation.

Family therapy addresses the relational dynamics of the whole family system, often across multiple generations. Couples therapy focuses specifically on the romantic bond between two or more people.

Family therapy can include children of various ages depending on the goals. We can discuss what format makes the most sense, sometimes working with parents alone first, sometimes including children from the start. We treat children who are five years or older. If you have children in your family who are younger than five years old, they may be encouraged to attend sessions, but are not usually the focus of treatment.
